Extract Translate Load (ETL) tool to extract data from single or multiple sources, such as
MS Office files, databases, or any other form of electronic storage and then to translate such data into a
load format. This load format could be for the iPlus data model itself, or MS office files or databases.
The ETL tool is highly granular, allowing, for example, several rows and columns from the second worksheet
of an Excel spreadsheet to be merged with the third paragraph of a Word file and with the results of an SQL
query into a single iPlus data item, or a new Excel spreadsheet.
The ETL tool can also be used to define custom outputs from data stored within iPlus, in this way, a
workflow step can be defined which merges XML output from the publishing engine with the results of a query
into a CRM system, carrying out macro subsitition of client name and address and other, more complex,
personalisation, and then feed this merged data back into the publishing engine to generate low resolution
PDF's for automated e-mail distribution. Or, to produce powerpoint slides as sales collatoral for a client
presentation.
Workflow Engine Complex, or simple, business processes can be modelled within the iPlus
workflow engine. The engine includes the ability to trigger external applications, or the ETL tool, and allows
processes to be "one off" or cyclical and includes a scheduler to automatically trigger workflows.
The first stage of a workflow, for example, could be to automatically trigger a query on an underlying market
data feed (such as Lipper or S&P) at the start of each publishing cycle, to then run the results of this
query through a defined iPlus benchmark analysis module for the fund, or fund group, and so seed a
"Comparative Performance Chart" data item within iPlus with the result. The next
workflow stage could be a visual check of this data item, which would be achieved by a user clicking on the
performance chart in DirectEdit and opening the underlying data in Excel for any fine tune
editing, or simply marking this data item as approved.
Content Management iPlus contains a highly sophisticated data model within which all content
is managed. This allows for associations to be maintained between data items, and new associations made without
any modifications to the database schema. In this way an "Institutional Disclaimer" data item can be
associated with all relevent institutional reporting, for example.
Meta-data (or descriptive information) provides data contextualisation and version controlling allows data
items to be rolled back to a previous state. A complete audit trail is maintained of all times data is used,
modified or viewed and the versions of data items which make up a particular output.
Authorization and Authentication All use of the application is controlled by a strong
authentication and authorization layer to ensure that any use of the application is by an authenticated user
at the appropriate authorisation level for that use.
Direct EditThis tool allows data to be edited in its source format (such as Excel, or Word)
whilst being viewed in its output format (such as PDF or HTML). Seamless integration with MS Office provides all
the ease of use of Office applications whilst storing data within a structured data model to readily allow for its
use in a variety of final output formats.
Template and Layout Designer GUI High level DTP and charting functionality is available within
the Template designer whilst the layout, or content, of output, either in PDF, HTML or XML, is controlled by the
Layout designer.
Publishing Engine The publishing engine allows for the production of profession print ready
high resolution PDF or postscript output, Powerpoint output, HTML and any other XML or data format output.

iPlus offers a complete distribution workflow within a single application suite, integrating seamlessly with Microsoft Office® Word and Excel.
Granular authentication and authorisation mechanism.
A distributed workflow, with document creation and authorisation information available in an "intelligent" preview pdf.
Multiple output formats from the same disparate data sources, including PowerPoint, PDF, HTML and XML.
Following implementation, iPlus can easily be adapted by the user to make changes or add additional publications.

| System Requirements: |
 |
Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP,
or Solaris
|
| Software modules:
|
|
Core Technologies: Miramo® (including xsl translator)
and Adobe FrameMaker®
Data bases: Oracle, MySQL, Embedded
100% Java Data bases
Servers: Windows 2000, Solaris using Apache
and Apache Tomcat Servlet engine • Applications developed
as cross platform Java applications or applets • IPS Solutions
are flexible in that they can be customized to work with a
clients existing software applications |
| Technical Benefits: |
|
An IPS Publishing Solution enables the user to:
- Provide
a mechanism to: — define a type of publication
and its contents — define the stylistic appearance
and layout of a publication — draw together auxiliary
information within a publication (covers, logos, frontmatter,
boilerplate text etc.) into a coherent database — collate
and check for completeness of all information to be published
- Provide
a thorough Authentication and Authorisation mechanism
- Allow
a publication to be previewed in PDF for a true representation
of the final output
- Generate print ready PDF/Postscript
of a publication
- Generate HTML of a publication
which closely conforms to the stylistic appearance of the
PDF
- Optionally,
generate PowerPoint® slides from the data set within
the publishing system
- Provide a plugin to Internet
Explorer, which allows intranet users to access any component
of data within the system as either PDF, HTML or a PowerPoint® slide
|
| Financial Benefits: |
|
- Large scale reduction in Production costs
- Massive
decrease in personnel hours for production process -
valuable personnel time can be redirected to a better purpose
- Rapid
return on investment - typically we provide a ROI within
6 months
- Fast implementation of system - we understand
the need for a quick and streamlined change-over to
a new process
|
| Why an XML-enabled Solution |
|
- XML standard provides easy integration of data with
exterior sources
- Separation of form and content supports
the network publishing philosophy of: “Creating once,
publishing anywhere on any device, ultimately making all information
accessible anywhere” —GARTNER RESEARCH 2001
|
| Network Publishing? |
|
- Integral to CRM systems
- Greater focus on client
care means CRM spending is expected to rise from $23
billion in 2002 to $76.3 billion by 2005 (Gartner Group 2001)
|
| Multi-lingual Solutions? |
|
IPS Solutions fully support the unicode standard, enabling
production of documents in Chinese, Japanese and Korean as
well as Central European and Cyrillic |
| Why not XSL-FO (XSL Formatting Objects - freeware) instead
of IPS component Miramo? |
|
In comparison, IPS Solutions support:
- separation of
form and content
- document design is controlled by a
separate WYSIWYG template making it much easier to design
and brand your documents
- 80% reduction in development
time (from a survey of Miramo users who had previously
looked at XSL-FO)
- Low maintenance
- Superior
formatting capabilities and image handling
- Additional
charting component for dynamic creation of graphs
|
| Why not automate Microsoft Word? |
|
- Less sophisticated formatting capabilities are possible
- No
ability to handle large documents
|
| Are we a DTP Package? |
|
No, in effect we take the ‘Desktop’ out of the
publishing process. We provide a server based publishing process
in which the user has zero exposure to any DTP package. Page
composition is abstracted out of the process. A client will
supply us with a style guide and template definition, these
are then built into the automated process. Should the scope
of the publishing system be extended, then the system can be
readily extended to match. For example, we began doing a single
publication type for a Major US bank in a single language and
now we do 70 in 6 different languages. Over the next few months
we will be including four times more publication |
